What's Happening in Sudan
A plain, regularly updated picture of the current situation on the ground, and how Humanity Nexus is coordinating a response.
“We didn't wait for aid to arrive from outside; communities became the aid.”
Sudan has been in active armed conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. The war has driven one of the largest displacement crises in the world, disrupted access to food, healthcare, and clean water, and made it difficult for international humanitarian organizations to reach many of the areas that need them most.
“Partnership, not paternalism: local voices lead, and our platform exists to support the work already happening.”
In the gap left by limited formal access, Sudanese communities have organized their own response. Neighborhood Emergency Response Rooms, mutual-aid networks, and community kitchens coordinate food distribution, medical support, and shelter for the people around them, often with little outside funding or recognition. This locally led response is the backbone of humanitarian work in Sudan today.
The Sudan hub exists to make this landscape easier to see and support. Our severity of need map tracks conditions state by state, our directory lists verified organizations operating on the ground, and our biweekly and monthly reports track what's changing over time. Together, they help donors, diaspora communities, and partner organizations connect directly with the local responders already doing the work.
